INSIDE:
A Speakers Series on Publishing Poetry
Your poems deserve this.
Beginning January 2024, you are invited to gather with a small cohort on Zoom to meet with editors and publishers from top poetry journals and literary presses, literary publicists and content creators, and other insiders in the field. In monthly sessions over the span of six months, we will personally answer your questions and share inside knowledge, helping you build a sound strategy to get your poems published, read, and reviewed in today’s landscape.
Confirmed speakers include series host Elaina Ellis, former editor at Copper Canyon Press; Daniel Slager, publisher at Milkweed Editions; Amber Flame, program director at Hedgebrook; Laura Buccieri, literary publicist; Marisa Vito, digital content manager at Copper Canyon Press; Jenna Peng, former editorial reader at Poetry magazine, editorial consultant at Copper Canyon Press, and associate editor at Asian American Literary Review; and Emily Stoddard of the Poetry Bulletin. Additionally, you will have exclusive access to resources including micro-interviews with award-winning and bestselling poets on how they got where they are today.
Who is this series for? It’s for you. You’ve written and polished a stack of poems. Perhaps this is your first collection, or perhaps it is your tenth. You feel proud of the work, all those lovingly crafted sounds and shapes and images, and sense it’s time for your poems to meet their readers. But this part feels hard. It’s difficult to know where to submit. How to approach the sticky business of self-promotion? How to recalibrate after a series of rejections? How to find funding and support to keep doing the work you’re meant to do? You feel vulnerable to the whims of strangers.
You’re not alone in these frustrations.
Space in the INSIDE cohort is limited, and you’ll be asked to attend all six sessions, if possible. Why? Community, that’s why! This work can be isolating, so we’re going to build a supportive space to share and ask and vent and celebrate and brainstorm about submissions, applications, rough drafts, and publications. A small group will also allow speakers to address the questions of every participant. Recordings will be available if you need to miss a session. For dates and pricing, click “Register” below.
